Bernice V. (Rikeman) Gostanian of Jensen Beach, FL died peacefully at The Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL on November 21, 2016. She was 89. She was born in Boston, MA on January 18, 1927 to her parents, Herbert and Evelyn Babin Rikeman. She was predeceased by her siblings: Walter Rikeman, Mary Small, Helen Kilfoyle, Anna Lunetta and Herb Rikeman. She is survived by her youngest sister, Jane Sweetser.

Bernice worked her way up from switchboard operator to management and retired from Verizon in 1982. She lived in Cambridge, MA for many years and...

Bernice V. (Rikeman) Gostanian of Jensen Beach, FL died peacefully at The Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL on November 21, 2016. She was 89. She was born in Boston, MA on January 18, 1927 to her parents, Herbert and Evelyn Babin Rikeman. She was predeceased by her siblings: Walter Rikeman, Mary Small, Helen Kilfoyle, Anna Lunetta and Herb Rikeman. She is survived by her youngest sister, Jane Sweetser.

Bernice worked her way up from switchboard operator to management and retired from Verizon in 1982. She lived in Cambridge, MA for many years and then, lived in Arlington, MA from 1973 until relocating to Florida in 2015. An avid reader and Scrabble player and expert solver of crossword puzzles, she also made beautiful baby blankets and outfits for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her many nieces, nephews and their offspring. She enjoyed exercise classes at the gym for 30 years and she loved her outings to Foxwoods with the gang. She made an awesome blueberry buckle and apple pie and she always had a good joke to tell.

Bernice was predeceased by her devoted husband of 52 years, Vaughn Gostanian in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Adams and her husband, Jim of Arlington, MA, her son Jack Ciccarelli and his wife, AnneMarie of Cambridge, MA and her daughter, Virginia Ryan and her husband, Jack of Jensen Beach, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nicole Queen, James Adams, Jonathan Ciccarelli, and Nicholas Ciccarelli. She was predeceased by her grandson, Michael Ciccarelli. She was a great grandmother of six: Ruby, Hazel, Grace, Lily, James, and Michael. Bernice was blessed with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many dear friends who will miss her sharp wit and boundless energy. Her neighbors already miss seeing "Miss Bernie" rounding the lake during her brisk morning and afternoon walks.

Interment will be private at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery where she will rest alongside her loving husband. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Celebration of her life at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Agnes Church, Medford Street, Arlington, MA, followed by a collation at The Knights of Columbus, 15 Winslow St., Arlington, MA
